Laptop hard drive replacement with SSD upgrade

Replacing a Laptop Hard Drive or SSD

Replacing a laptop hard drive is one of the most useful upgrades for an older computer, especially if the original drive is a slow mechanical HDD. In many cases, replacing the drive with an SSD makes the laptop noticeably faster and more reliable.

At Bitmaster in Helsinki, we replace laptop hard drives and SSDs, check drive health, reinstall Windows and transfer files when the old drive is still readable.

Old laptop slow or drive failing?
Bring it in before the drive fails completely. We can check whether an SSD upgrade or data transfer makes sense.

When a drive replacement is useful

  • The laptop is very slow even after restarting
  • Windows shows disk errors or repair loops
  • The hard drive makes clicking or unusual noises
  • The drive is too small for current use
  • You want to upgrade from HDD to SSD
  • You need files copied from the old drive to a new installation

Backup comes first

If the old drive still works, important files should be copied before replacement. If the drive is failing, repeated startup attempts can make data recovery harder. We can check the drive condition and choose the safest copying method.

What Bitmaster can do

  • Replace 2.5 inch SATA hard drives and SSDs
  • Replace compatible M.2 SSDs
  • Install Windows cleanly on the new drive
  • Transfer user files when possible
  • Check whether the laptop is worth upgrading

More help for this symptom

Before replacing a drive, check what its health data really means. If the SSD is visible in firmware but missing from Windows, follow the safe BIOS and Disk Management checklist. For an older computer, compare an SSD upgrade with replacement.

If a hard drive makes repetitive mechanical sounds, read when a clicking drive should be shut down.
